Records contain at a minimum the following basic papers: complaints, bench warrant for arrest, bond, finding, decision, and order of court. Many cases include subpoenas, and motions for the adduction of evidence, both oral testimony and tangible evidence. Oral testimony was sought from Hawaii residents and from residents in China. The case files contain the correspondence and related documents concerning the depositions as well as transcripts of testimony. Other evidence in these cases include: copies of ship passenger lists; birth, marriage, and death certificates; transcripts of Immigration Board hearings, affidavits of defendants and witnesses; photographs of defendants; and one set of x-rays to establish identity. In many instances, a complete transcript of the proceedings is included. Many case also include legal memorandum on points of law and motions for delay of proceedings, dismissal of complaints, and substitution of attorneys.
